Aiming for Berklee!

"Music has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I watched my sister learn piano and then there was me doing piano lessons. And there was always music playing in the house, so whether it was English or Bollywood music, it was just always there.

And it was something that I grew attached to and now I can't go a day without music anymore. Music is a form of expression for me. It’s almost like speaking. I found my passion for writing songs and singing and, my main instrument - drums.

I have a drum kit at home but now I'm kind of trying to expand and challenge myself with my repertoire, taking on songs that require more time and that I couldn't work up before. I need a couple of songs for Uni interviews and auditions. Currently I'm working on ‘Lateralus’ by Tool, “Sing, Sing, Sing” for HSC and ‘Grebfruit’ by Benny Greb.

I started to write music a few years ago and I've just recently started like doing my own production, putting some songs out.  While I was still at school I would use the school's equipment like their mic, their pianos … but now it's bit harder to do that. But I invested in a mic and I've got Logic so that's basically the two things that I need. I do the best I can.  I converted the sauna to a studio.  Why not?  It’s actually quite good.

I use @distrokid - it releases my music to all platforms like Apple Music, iTunes and Spotify as PragyaM.  Currently it's through me promoting my own music, so it's still on a really small scale but I'm hoping that the more songs I write, the more publicity that I gain, that it will start catching on.

I’m still exploring what genre and exactly what I'm trying to say, but it’s pop; a little bit of ballady-pop, soft pop about stuff that teenagers go through.  Everyone goes through it but everyone like looks at it differently.

If I'm really feeling it I can smash out a song lyric and melody in maybe an hour or two, but sometimes I get like little ideas and I've not been down to later use, and I expand them and write them out fully at a later date. So it could take months too.

Next year, I would really love to go overseas. I was really hoping to go to Berklee College in Boston. Yeah, they have an amazing program. I’ve been focusing on song-writing and production.  Maybe I can win a Grammy.  That’s the plan!"

Pragya.

Anyway, the Stones ...

My Dad has always been a Rolling Stones fan.  I remember coming out of the show and the endorphins were absolutely pumping and we were all so happy and so pumped up.  And everyone’s singing and walking back to the hotel singing all the songs and all together.
